Extraordinary Love
For Random Acts Of Kindness Week, some of our support staff baked cookies and left them for us in the office with encouraging messages about kindness.
This one caught my eye.
Doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.
I determined to look for more evidence of this around me.
As I walked back to my classroom, I smiled as the group of special needs young adults came through the halls.
As part of their life skills training they visit businesses and learn to complete needed tasks in an effort to help them prepare for work possibilities.
At our building that includes emptying all of the recycling bins and returning the bins to their specified locations.
As each student held onto one of the large receptacles, I noted that they all paused and looked back down the hall.
“We need “Mark” to help us find the way!” a girl
with long black hair and a broad smile exclaimed.
The others nodded.
I watched with curiosity.
One young man in a wheelchair chair was at the top of the gently sloping hallway and he wheeled himself down to get started and giggled as he picked up speed and adeptly wheeled past them.
The others clapped their hands and most of them smiled.
They quickly fell into line and “Mark” led them onward down the hallway.
This young man had been included in an authentic and meaningful way.
An ordinary thing, done with extraordinary love.
Elder Dieter F Uchtdorf reminded, “Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the center of all and everything we do in our own family, in our Church callings, and in our livelihood. Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations. Love is the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk.”
Kindness is love exemplified.
It is doing ordinary things with extraordinary love.
