Watching

My daughter currently lives with my amazing cousin and her family.

Their daughter Gillian LOVES Kyrie and Kyrie LOVES Gillian.

Yesterday Gillian got ready for church with excitement and matched Kyrie all the way down to the perfume they used together.

Her smile shows just how ecstatic she was.

Children are always watching and desperately need positive role models.

We don’t get to pick IF we are teaching them, we only get to pick WHAT we are teaching them.

Elder Dwan J Young gave this important advice:

“Actually, we are all teachers of children—parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, priesthood leaders, ward members, neighbors. Children are always watching and learning. We teach them through our behavior as well as by what we say. They watch how we treat each other. They listen to the voices of their parents and to the voices at church. Unfortunately, they also listen to voices on television and elsewhere which sometimes teach values contrary to gospel principles. We must teach them at an early age to listen to the right voices.”

We must teach them to listen to the right voices.

And we must learn to be the right voices.

Right voices aren’t perfect; but they own their mistakes, apologize and do better.

Right voices see and reflect and point out the good in others.

Right voices reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Because what kids see matters.  And they are always listening and watching.
