Jump In



 “Mrs. Potter! Aren’t you going to come into the pool with us again?”


I heard the voice of my 11-year old friend from the pool side as I sat chatting with adult friends from the side.


I had already been in the pool once and was finally dry.  


I left my pool figure somewhere between 1998 and 2002. 


And there were 22 kids in the pool.  


And a dozen adults watching from their chairs.


Surely he had enough people to play with.


BUT HE HAD ASKED ME.


And looking up at his face I smiled and stood up.


“I’m coming.”


A few minutes later my husband snapped this picture.


Really putting myself out there, wasn’t I? 


Can you see my suffering and sacrifice? 🙄


In Matthew 18, the Savior is spending time with and blessing children.


He follows up with this admonition, “Whoso shall receive one such child in my name receiveth me.”


One way to interpret this is reminding us that we have a responsibility to the children.


All of the children.


Which is absolute truth.


But another way to look at it is that when we “receive the children” we bring Christ into our hearts and lives.  


So say yes, when you can.


I can do so much better on this! 


When are my kids inviting me into their lives and I decline? (Even if I really don’t like Super Hero movies!)


Put your phone down.


Worry more about the children watching and less about the other adults on the side.


Jump in! 


And let in some joy.

  This local story caught my attention and has had me contemplating who and how I serve and share the love of God. "The Elkhart County Jail Ministry held its first-ever hymn-sing inside the Elkhart County Jail. A local Amish choir from Middlebury made rounds throughout the jail, singing two hymns in each ward. Hearing the slow, melodic songs reverberating off the concrete walls and ceiling had a calming and soothing effect on all of us. I Know

 This week in Come Follow Me I was reading and pondering on this paragraph: What does it mean to say that Jesus Christ is “he who liveth”? It doesn’t just mean that He rose from the tomb and appeared to His disciples in Galilee. It means that He lives today. He speaks through prophets today. He leads His Church today. He heals wounded souls and broken hearts today. So we can echo the words of Joseph Smith’s powerful testimony: “After the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony … which we give of him: That he lives!” (⁠Doctrine and Covenants 76:22⁠). We can hear His voice in these revelations, witness His hand in our lives, and feel “the joy this sentence gives: ‘I know that my Redeemer lives!’”  The question in my mind, which is one I’ve been asked by others, is what does it really mean to KNOW something?  I spent sometime studying the etymology, or history and meaning of the word. Jesus Hugs

 I walked into school with concerns for a close friend's granddaughter fresh in my mind.   I quickly dropped my stuff off in my room and headed to my usual post at what is called the "Hallway of Doom".  It's a long hallway all but screaming COME AND RUN!  Skip on my squares.  Hide in all the alcoves and jump out at your friends.  First wash your hands in the bathroom and then try to touch every single coat hook on your way down the hall to the cafeteria.  After the other 400 students do the same thing.   If you can knock down  coats it earns bonus points.   And it's my job to monitor where that hall intersects with the main one. It's a job I love.  Because I get to do daily checkins with so many students and help ensure that they start the day right.  And I'm pretty much just a 47 year old kid.  Who may or may not sometimes skip on the tiles.😊 Only today my little first grade friend came up to me and said, "I heard you li...
