He Came To Save Me


The unkind word, the darker thoughts

The times I failed to show.

The parts that I want covered

He says will be like snow.


But I’ve been mean or cruel

Or I have leaned toward doubt

I didn’t always keep my word

And He’ll just stamp it out?


I got too tired and weary

I forgot to trust in the light 

I held onto grudges and anger

And He can make that right?


I’ve lost those I loved and leaned on,

I’ve questioned my Father’s love

I’ve over-relied on the world

Instead of just looking above.


Our culture says I should be cancelled

But Christ says He’ll cancel my sin

He just want my heart to be toward him

And to let His Atonement in. 


That is the message of Christmas

The gift of the nativity 

The truth is that He is my Savior

And His gift was to come and save me.

  This local story caught my attention and has had me contemplating who and how I serve and share the love of God. "The Elkhart County Jail Ministry held its first-ever hymn-sing inside the Elkhart County Jail. A local Amish choir from Middlebury made rounds throughout the jail, singing two hymns in each ward. Hearing the slow, melodic songs reverberating off the concrete walls and ceiling had a calming and soothing effect on all of us. There were standing ovations, hands raised in worship, men singing along to songs they recognized from their childhood, requests for favorite hymns being shouted from the back of the room...and tears. Extraordinary Love

  For Random Acts Of Kindness Week, some of our support staff baked cookies and left them for us in the office with encouraging messages about kindness.   This one caught my eye.   Doing ordinary things with extraordinary love. I determined to look for more evidence of this around me. As I walked back to my classroom, I smiled as the group of special needs young adults came through the halls. As part of their life skills training they visit businesses and learn to complete needed tasks in an effort to help them prepare for work possibilities. At our building that includes emptying all of the recycling bins and returning the bins to their specified locations. As each student held onto one of the large receptacles, I noted that they all paused and looked back down the hall. “We need “Mark” to help us find the way!” a girl with long black hair and a broad smile exclaimed. Better Than You Think

 The  movie "Greyhound"  tells the fictional, but historically accurate story of a captain of a warship tasked with the difficult job of leading a convoy of ships through a portion of the Atlantic which was outside the range of air support during World War II.   (Partial spoiler alert- I am going to talk about the film so if you want to watch it first stop here😊). Pilots in the air could see and attack the German U-boats from above but only had the fuel range to fly a certain distance from shores.  During the war, the U-boats destroyed more than 3500 allied ships, including unarmed merchants.   The ships would group into convoys to travel across the out of range portion of the journey which took about five days to cross.  The U-boats would group into "wolf packs" and generally attack at night when the ships lost visual support.   I don't want to ruin the story but the captain faces many losses and feels them incredibly deeply.  Even when his...
